DSME to build two LNG carriers for Greece’s Maran Gas

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said it has received an order from Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas to build two LNG carriers.

DSME said it would build the 174,000-cbm vessels for the Greek shipping firm for 486.7 billion won ($411 million).

Moreover, the contract includes an option for two additional LNG carriers.

The shipbuilder will deliver the vessels by November 2024.

Maria Angelicoussis, who is also the head of parent Angelicoussis Shipping Group, signed the new contract with DSME’s CEO Lee Sung-geun on November 10.

Angelicoussis has booked 112 ships at DSME since 1994. Recently, DSME delivered the 174,000-cbm LNG carrier Isabella to Maran Gas.

The Korean yard has this year won about $9.19 billion in orders, achieving 119 percent of its annual target.

These orders include very large crude carriers, LPG carriers, containerships, nine LNG carriers, and one wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV).
