DSME to build two more LNG tankers for Greece’s Maran Gas

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said it has received an order from Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas to build two additional LNG carriers.

According to DSME, Maran Gas exercised an option for two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers as part of the original order signed in November 2021.

Maria Angelicoussis, who is also the head of parent Angelicoussis Shipping Group, signed the original contract with DSME’s CEO Lee Sung-geun on November 10.

The yard said in a statement it would build the two new vessels for the Greek shipping firm for 502.1 billion won ($417.3), which is higher when compared to 486.7 billion won for the first two vessels.

Also, the new vessels will feature MAN ME-GI propulsion while DSME will deliver them to the owner in the second half of 2025.

DSME did not reveal which containment system the vessels would have but the first two carriers will be equipped with GTT’s NO96 GW membrane containment system.

Angelicoussis has booked 114 ships at DSME since 1994 and is the largest customer for the yard, the yard said.

This is the first order for DSME this year. Last year, the yard won about $10.8 billion in orders, exceeding its target of $7.7 billion.
