Fluor bags second FLNG gig from New Fortress

US engineer Fluor said it has won a second FLNG contract from compatriot LNG player New Fortress Energy.

NFE awarded a full notice-to-proceed (FNTP) contract to Fluor for the engineering, procurement and fabrication management of the NFE Fast LNG 2 project, the latter said in a statement issued on Monday.

The project is a nominal 1.4 million tonnes per annum LNG gas treating and liquefaction plant that NFE and its contractors will install on fixed offshore platforms.

Also, Fluor said it would book the undisclosed reimbursable contract value in the second quarter of 2022.

Jim Breuer, Fluor’s Energy Solutions group president said that the company, in conjunction with key licensors and suppliers, provides NFE with an integrated modular mid-scale LNG export solution for these projects.

Moreover, the Fluor design and execution plan “facilitates repeatable project models that can be used to replicate similar plants in the future,” Breuer said.

Second contract

The project is another offshore modular mid-scale LNG plant that NFE has awarded to Fluor this year.

Fluor said it had won the first NFE Fast LNG 1 project in the first quarter of this year.

To remind, NFE took a final investment decision on the first project last year and this project should go online in the US Gulf of Mexico next year.

Wes Edens-led NFE plans to install up to eight floating liquefaction facilities in the Gulf of Mexico using its “Fast LNG” liquefaction design that incorporates modular, midsize liquefaction technology with jack up rigs or similar offshore infrastructure.

In addition, the firm recently signed two separate deals under which it plans to install floating LNG production units off Mexico as well.

Fluor did not reveal the location for the NFE Fast LNG 2 project in the statement.

The firm said that others would install this modular plant that would be available for dispatch to “various locations around the world providing NFE the opportunity to access multiple gas supply sources“.
