Golar LNG’s joint venture with Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, Hygo Energy Transition, has signed a deal with a Brazilian firm that will help it with its planned Barcarena FSRU project.
Hygo signed a memorandum of understanding with Companhia de Gás do Pará. The regulated local firm has the exclusive rights to distribute natural gas in the Brazilian state of Pará.
Under the deal, Hygo will supply natural gas and LNG to GdP once the contracts are executed, Golar LNG said.
The two firms will also work on exploring the local market potential.
Furthermore, Hygo will utilize the planned Barcarena terminal, the only one permitted in this isolated region, to supply the volumes.
This deal follows the recent termination of a contract between Hygo and Norsk Hydro.
Under this deal, Hygo would have supplied LNG via the Barcarena FSRU to Norsk Hydro’s Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil.
Hygo has already secured 25 year PPAs for a 605MW power station and has received the necessary permits to start building the Barcarena LNG import terminal.
The firm plans to start construction soon with start of operations sceduled in the first half of 2022.
