Great Lakes wins Sabine Pass LNG dredging job

US company Great Lakes Dredge & Dock has secured a subcontract from engineer Bechtel for the third jetty at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana.

The subcontract involves dredging works for the third marine berth at Sabine Pass.

Cheniere is expanding its five-train 25 mtpa facility with an additional train and the jetty to boost operational flexibility.

The LNG company issued to Bechtel a notice to proceed with the new train in June 2019 and for the jetty on July 1, 2020.

Cheniere plans to launch the jetty in the first quarter of 2023.

Once complete, it will be able to accommodate vessels with a capacity of 125,000-180,000 cubic meters.

The project would allow Cheniere to add 180 LNG cargoes per year, increasing the total to 580 LNG cargoes.

Great Lakes said in a statement it aims to start dredging works in the third quarter of 2020.

It did not disclose the value of the contract.

The US dredging company previously worked as a subcontractor to Bechtel on Chevron’s Wheatstone LNG project in Australia.

The firm also performed dredging works for Cheniere’s second terminal in Corpus Christi, Texas.
