GTT books new LNG tank order from Hyundai Samho

French LNG containment giant GTT said it has won an order from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries to design tanks for new LNG carriers.

According to a statement on Thursday, GTT will design tanks for two 174,000-cbm LNG vessels.

GTT said the vessels would feature its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

HSHI expects to deliver the LNG carriers to an undisclosed African shipowner in the first quarter of 2025.

The LNG containment specialist did not provide any additional information regarding the order.

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering recently revealed HSHI would build two new LNG carriers for an unidentified African shipowner as part of a deal worth about 534.7 billion won ($443.5 million).

According to KSOE, HSHI would deliver the 174,000-cbm LNG carriers by February 2025.

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime at the time that Nigeria LNG was involved in the order, but did not order the vessels directly.

Also, brokers reported after the announcement that Bono Energy had ordered the vessels against a time charter with Nigeria LNG’s largest shareholder NNPC.

Nigeria LNG is a venture compromising of NNPC (49%), Shell (25.6%), as well as TotalEnergies (15%), and Eni (10.4%).

Last year, the venture started building the seventh train to add around 8 mtpa of production capacity to the Bonny Island facility.
