GTT nets new LNG tank gig from Samsung Heavy

French LNG containment giant GTT has secured another order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

Under the new contract, GTT will design the tanks of four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers scheduled for delivery between the first and the third quarters of 2025, according to a statement.

The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT said that SHI would build two vessels on behalf of an Asian owner and two for an American owner.

The firm won the contract in the third quarter.

These orders are probably related to an announcement by Samsung Heavy issued on September 6.

Samsung Heavy said then it would build two LNG carriers for an owner based in Africa and two LNG carriers for an owned based in Bermuda, both with delivery scheduled in 2025.

Shipbuilding sources said that a Korean consortium consisting of H-Line Shipping, Pan Ocean, and SK Shipping ordered two out of these four vessels under QatarEnergy’s program.

Besides K3, JP Morgan ordered the two other LNG carriers.
