GTT scores SHI tank contract for LNG carrier quartet

French LNG containment giant GTT said it has won a new order from South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries to design tanks for four LNG carriers.

The 174,000-cbm vessels will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

GTT said in a statement Samsung Heavy would deliver the vessel to an unidentified owner in the first three quarters of 2025, but it did not provide any additional information.

Last month, the Korean yard revealed an order for four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers due for delivery by September 2025.

Samsung Heavy said it would build the LNG carriers worth about $837 million for an owner based in Africa.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime at that time that US energy giant ExxonMobil was behind the order.

Brokers confirmed after the announcement that ExxonMobil would charter the vessels from South Korea’s H-Line.
