HAM makes move to build Peruvian LNG fueling stations

A unit of Spain’s HAM Group has purchased a 40 percent stake in Peru’s Limagas Movilidad and plans to build a network of LNG fueling stations for vehicles in Peru.

HAM said in a statement it bought the stake for an undiclosed amount through its subsidiary HAM Criogenica Peru.

Limagas Movilidad is a Peruvian company dedicated to the construction and management of vehicular natural gas service stations, as well as other lines of business such as commercialization of LNG for river, rail, and mining transport, according to HAM.

With this new acquisition, HAM and Limagas reinforce their presence in Peru, developing an important growth strategy and taking advantage of the possibilities that Peru offers to promote the use of natural gas for vehicles in the country, the firm said.

“HAM Group aims to become a benchmark in the Latin American energy field, investing over the next few years in the development of the first Peruvian service stations for liquefied natural gas, for long-distance transport, and compressed natural gas, for passenger cars, vehicles light and trucks,” it said.

HAM’s unit recently carried out, together with Limagas, the design, construction and commissioning of the first CNG/LNG service stations in Cuzco, the statement said.

According to a stock exchange filling, Chile’s Lipigas holds 60 percent in Limagas Movilidad.

HAM and Lipigas have already partnered on LNG filling stations as well as the first bio-LNG plant in Chile.
