Hoegh to send FSRU to Keppel for modifications prior to India work

Norway-based Hoegh LNG will send its Hoegh Giant FSRU to Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard for “minor” modifications ahead of its job for H-Energy’s import project in Jaigarh, India.

The 2017-built Höegh Giant has a storage capacity of 170,000 cbm and a peak regasification capacity of 750 mmscfd.

The FSRU is currently completing its charter with Spain’s Naturgy as an LNG carrier after it will depart to Keppel, Hoegh said this week.

This is in addition to pre-completion of the vessel’s five year periodic class survey, originally scheduled for 2022 as this will “improve efficiency and reduce costs,” Hoegh said.

The floating LNG giant said it has completed and signed all documentation for its charter with H-Energy it announced last year.

The deal for Hoegh Giant is for a period of 10 years with annual termination options after year five.

The vessel is expected to be off hire for about 40 days in the first quarter of 2021 before the start-up under the H-Energy contract in March 2021, it said.

According to the owner, Hoegh Giant will be the first FSRU operating in India and will deliver natural gas to the 56 km Jaigarh-Dabhol pipeline connecting the LNG import terminal to the national gas grid.

In addition, the vessel will also deliver LNG for onshore distribution through truck loading facilities, as well as reloading the fuel onto small-scale vessels for downstream distribution or bunkering services.
