Hyundai Samho, EPS pick GTT tanks for LNG-powered containership trio

French LNG containment giant GTT has won a new contract from South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for three LNG-powered containerships ordered by Idan Ofer’s Eastern Pacific Shipping.

These three new vessels, with a capacity of 7,700 containers, would each feature 6,000-cbm tanks, GTT said in a statement.

Also, the tanks will have GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment technology.

GTT added that HSHI would deliver the vessels to EPS during the second half of 2024.

“We are very pleased and proud that our partners Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries and Eastern Pacific Shipping are again choosing GTT technology, following an initial order for three vessels announced earlier this year,” Philippe Berterottière, chairman and CEO of GTT, said.

HSHI’s parent KSOE revealed this order in February saying that the shipbuilder would build the containerships for about $355 million. KSOE said HSHI would deliver the vessels to an unidentified Asian shipowner by December 2024.

Sources told LNG Prime that Singapore’s EPS and Israel’s ZIM were behind this order.

The duo signed a contract in January for three 7,900-teu containerships. This new deal was an option from that contract, the sources said.
