Kanfer, Nimofast in Brazilian small-scale LNG move

Norway-based small-scale player Kanfer Shipping is joining forces with trader Nimofast Brasil to sell and deliver LNG to customers along the Brazilian coast.

In that regard, the two firms signed a partnership agreement to offer small and medium-scale LNG shipping, small-scale floating storage units (FSU), and LNG bunkering solutions to its clients in Brazil from 2025 onwards, according to a joint statement.

Kanfer, led by Stig Hagen, revealed in May last year it contracted Chinese shipyard Taizhou Wuzhou Shipbuilding to build two 6,000-cbm bunkering and distribution vessels and deliver them by the second half of 2023.

The firm also holds an option for two additional vessels.

In June, the firm signed a deal with Egypt’s EGAS to charter one LNG bunkering vessel to a new joint venture which aims to provide bunkering services in the Suez Canal.

Nimofast LNG terminal

Nimofast Brasil is an LNG project development company with its roots in trading and is fully licensed and authorized by ANP to import LNG to Brazil, the statement said.

The company recently secured enough LNG offtake volumes to justify a final investment decision on its LNG import and distribution terminal in the state of Parana, Brazil.

It signed contracts with GNLink, a company controlled by asset manager Lorinvest, and with energy trading company Migratio Gas.

According to Nimofast, the terminal would be able supply 100,000 cbm per month of LNG, which is equivalent to 2 million cbm of natural gas per day and circa 0.6 mmtpa.

The firm expects to launch the facility in 2025.

Nimofast said the contract with Kanfer enables the firm to provide a full integrated solution to sell and deliver LNG of any volume via small and medium-scale LNG vessels to customers to any location along the Brazilian coast line.

Moreover, the LNG vessels and LNG bunkering ships would be loaded via a permanently-based FSU at the Nimofast LNG import and distribution terminal.

“We noticed that many clients in Brazil, either require relatively small volumes of LNG, or do not have suitable port infrastructure to build or to justify their own LNG import terminal,” Nimofast president Ramon Reis said in the statement.

“Via the partnership with Kanfer Shipping, we are able to offer and deliver LNG to any customer along the Brazilian coastline regardless the requested volumes or port draft limitations,” he said.

Ramon added that the firm also sees LNG bunkering as a “growth market to meet environmental- and economic objectives by using LNG as a fuel in shipping”.
