MOL seals LNG carrier charter deal with TotalEnergies

Japan’s shipping firm MOL has signed a deal to charter one newbuild LNG carrier to a unit of French energy giant TotalEnergies.

MOL said in a statement on Thursday it signed the multi-year charter deal with TotalEnergies Gas & Power on September 26.

According to MOL, DSME is building the 174,000-cbm vessel and will deliver it in 2025 to serve TotalEnergies LNG portfolio.

The 294.9 meters long vessel would feature MAN ME-GA engine which provides lower emissions compared to previous generation vessels, MOL said.

ME-GA engine is equipped with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system that reduces methane slip while improving overall fuel consumption, MOL claims.

MOL did not provide any additional information.

Shipbuilding sources previously said that MOL was behind a single LNG carrier at DSME in August, and for two LNG carriers in April.

The Japanese firm currently has at least twelve LNG carriers on order at DSME scheduled for delivery between 2023 and 2026, according to VesselsValue.
