Nakilat and HSD Engine ink long-term maintenance deal

South Korea’s HSD Engine has secured a long-term service contract from Qatari LNG shipping giant Nakilat.

Under the deal, HSD Engine will provide spares and maintenance services necessary to maintain the reliability of engines onboard Nakilat’s wholly owned LNG vessels, according to a statement by the latter.

This agreement will further improve the operational efficiency of the vessels’ engines and contribute to the overall LNG fleet availability, Nakilat said.

The LNG shipping firm did not provide any additional information regarding the deal.

“At Nakilat, our priority is to increase the operational efficiency of our vessels and maintaining the highest reliability and safety standards, as it gives us the competitive advantage at a time when the company is expanding its reach in the global gas shipping market,” Nakilat’s CEO Abdullah Al-Sulaiti said in the statement.

Nakilat took delivery of the 173,400-cbm Global Sea Spirit in October 2021, and the 174,000-cbm Global Sealine in January 2022.

Following these deliveries, Nakilat’s fleet rose to 74 vessels, including 40 jointly owned vessels. These include four LPG carriers and one FSRU.
