Pakistan seeks 72 LNG cargoes over six years

State-owned Pakistan LNG is inviting firms to submit bids for a total of 72 LNG shipments for delivery over a period of six years.

Pakistan LNG revealed this term tender in a short announcement posted on its website on August 6.

The 140,000-cbm cargoes would be delivered to Port Qasim, the home of two FSRU-based LNG import terminals, on a DES basis.

According to the firm, bid documents may be obtained from August 10 until September 13. The tender closes on September 14.

Pakistan LNG did not reveal any additional information.

Local media reports suggest that the firm issued a two-part tender. Under the first part, Pakistan LNG is seeking 12 LNG cargoes from December 2022 to December 2023.

Moreover, the firm seeks 60 LNG cargoes for five years starting from January 2024 to December 2028 under the second part, according to the reports.

Pakistan LNG’s five-year deal with trader Gunvor for one cargo per month expired in July this year. The company also has a deal with Italy’s Eni until 2032.

Pakistan gets most of its supplies under long-term contracts from Qatar and on the spot market, but this year prices surged and Europe took most of the available spot supplies.

In July, Pakistan LNG did not receive any bids for a tender seeking ten spot LNG cargoes for July-September.

Prior to this, Pakistan did not manage to secure much-needed LNG supplies to fuel its power plants in three tenders.
