Samsung Heavy clinches single LNG carrier order

South Korean shipbuilding giant Samsung Heavy Industries will build another liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier as part of a new deal revealed on Monday.

Samsung Heavy said in a filing to the stock exchange the contract has a price tag of 241.6 billion won ($203.6 million).

The yard said it would build the LNG carrier for an owner based in Central and South America.

Samsung Heavy added it would deliver the ship by December 2024, but it did not reveal any additional information regarding the contract.

Including the newest deal, the shipbuilder won orders worth $12.2 billion so far this year, surpassing its annual target of $9.1 billion by about $3.1 billion. This includes orders for 22 LNG carriers.

This new contract follows an order for one LNG carrier Samsung Heavy revealed earlier this month.

In addition, Celsius Shipping recently confirmed it has ordered two 180,000-cbm LNG carriers at the yard.
