Samsung Heavy selects TMC compressors for 12 LNG tankers

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted Norwegian firm TMC Compressors to supply a complete marine compressed air system to 12 LNG carriers.

Under the contract, TMC said it will supply control, service air and N2 compressors to each of the 12 174,000-cbm LNG vessels being built by SHI for an undisclosed owner.

The firm will manufacture the equipment in Europe and ship it to South Korea.

TMC did not provide the price tag of the deal or any additional details regarding the LNG carriers.

Back in June last year, Samsung Heavy revealed an order for 12 174,000-cbm LNG carriers worth about $2.57 billion.

Global Meridian Holdings, part of J.P. Morgan Asset Management, is behind this order for the 12 LNG carriers.

Also, this order is related to the giant Qatari LNG shipbuilding program which includes the construction of more than 100 LNG carriers.

Prior to this contract, TMC announced orders from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean for two Maran Gas Maritime’s LNG carriers and from the same shipbuilder for four BW LNG’s carriers.
