TotalEnergies to supply one LNG cargo to Bulgargaz

Bulgargaz recently launched three tenders for the delivery of five cargoes during the upcoming autumn-winter season.

According to a statement by Bulgargaz, ten international companies participated in the tender announced by the company for the supply of LNG in October via Gastrade’s FSRU-based LNG terminal off Alexandroupolis, Greece.

“TotalEnergies Gas and Power Ltd. was ranked first among the participants,” Bulgargaz said.

Bulgargaz sought one LNG cargo of about 150,000 cbm on a DES (delivery ex-ship) basis

The delivery window is October 4.

In addition to this cargo, Bulgargaz is seeking two LNG cargoes, each of about 150,000 cbm, for delivery during November 23-31 and the other during December 23-30, 2024.

During January-February 2025, Bulgargaz is seeking two LNG cargoes, each of about 150,000 cbm, for delivery during January 24-31 and February 21-28, 2024.

The delivery of these LNG cargoes is foreseen in accordance with the time slots agreed between the Alexandroupolis terminal operator Gastrade and Bulgargaz, the company said.

Bulgargaz expects “increased interest” in the remaining two tenders.

With the inclusion of LNG supplies from Alexandroupolis in the energy mix, Bulgargaz said it “fully guarantees the security of gas supply for the upcoming winter season for Bulgarian consumers and businesses, in view of the potential suspension of Russian natural gas transportation through Ukrainian territory from the beginning of next year.”

Alexandroupolis FSRU

Gastrade, the operator of the FSRU-based LNG import terminal off Alexandroupolis, recently told LNG Prime that the unit has completed final tests following an issue with the project’s pipeline.

“The COD (commercial operation date) is still planned for October 1, 2024, to coincide with the start of the next gas year,” the company said.

Gastrade’s shareholders include founder Copelouzou, DESFA, DEPA, Bulgartransgaz, and GasLog.

Bulgartransgaz has a 20 percent share in the LNG terminal, while Bulgargaz previously booked capacity at Gastrade’s FSRU-based LNG import project.

Worth mentioning here, US LNG exporter Venture Global LNG just booked long-term capacity at Gastrade’s LNG import terminal.

Under the binding terminal use agreement, Venture Global has secured about 1 mtpa of LNG regasification capacity at the terminal for five years, beginning in 2025.

Venture Global’s capacity will account for about 25 percent of the total terminal capacity, or about 12 LNG cargoes annually, it said.
