Vires Energy awards contract for its LNG-to-power project in Philippines

Vires Energy has awarded a contract for its LNG-to-power project in the Philippines, located in Batangas on the main island of Luzon.

A consortium of Seanergy Singapore and London Marine Consultants would work as
the project’s owner’s engineer to cover up to the commissioning stage, according to Vires Energy’s parent A Brown.

In addition to this contract, Vires Energy has shortlisted EPC contractors for the marine and onshore facilities for the floating power plant, A Brown said.

Vires Energy has completed the pre-FEED study for the marine and onshore scope of the LNG-fired power plant component of the project, while FEED has already started, it said.

A Brown did not provide any additional information.

The Philippines’ Department of Energy said in a statement in April this year it had issued a notice to proceed to the LNG-to-power project.

It said then the NTP was valid for six months and Vires Energy had to submit to the DOE all relevant permits from various government agencies, endorsements from the local government units but also proof of financial closing.

A Brown previously said the Vires Energy was considering options and arrangements to charter an FSRU for the project.

Besides the FSRU, Vires Energy’s project includes a 1.6km subsea gas pipeline from the unit to a 500MW floating power plant.

This would mark the largest floating power plant project recorded in the country, according to the DOE.

Moreover, the project would also utilize a land area classified as a “heavy industrial zone” for backup fuel supply of diesel fuel during gas outage events.

Vires Energy previously said it had planned to start commercial operations in January 2023.
