Finland’s Wartsila has secured a new contract to supply reliquefaction equipment for three LNG carriers ordered by Norway’s Knutsen at Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Wartsila booked this order for its Compact Reliq reliquefaction plants in June.
This brings the total number of orders for Knutsen to eight, following two in 2020, and three in 2021.
Hyundai Heavy will build all of these eight 174,000-cbm LNG carriers for Knutsen.
The solution, based on the reversed nitrogen Brayton cycle refrigeration technology, reliquefies the boil-off gas from carriers and LNG bunker vessels. The system also keeps the cargo cool under all operating conditions, according to Wartsila.
Also, a portion of the BOG ends as fuel for the ship’s engines, while the operator can sell the rest as part of the LNG cargo.
Wartsila did not reveal the price tag of the deal.
