Wartsila to support NYK LNG carrier

Finland’s Wartsila has signed a guaranteed asset performance agreement with a unit of Japan’s shipping giant NYK for one of the latter’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

Wartsila secured the eight-year deal with NYK LNG Ship Management and the agreement covers the two Wärtsilä X72DF main engines on an LNG carrier vessel, according to a statement by Wartsila issued on Wednesday.

The deal is designed to maximize the vessel availability and ensure its operation from dry dock to dry dock, it said.

Wartsila said the contract was booked as order intake in March 2023, but it did not provide the price tag of the deal or the name of the vessel.

In addition to spare parts and field service, the scope of the long-term agreement includes remote operational support, maintenance planning, and Wartsila’s expert insight predictive maintenance service.

Last year, Wartsila signed a long-term asset performance agreement for one NYK LNG carrier and a 13-year optimized maintenance agreement for another LNG tanker.
