Petronas’ unit Malaysia LNG said one contractor died and another one was injured in an incident at its Bintulu complex.
MLNG confirmed the incident occurred on Monday 2pm, local time at the acid gas removal unit drain containment. This unit is currently undergoing maintenance.
The operator says that both contractors were immediately sent to hospital where it was confirmed one of the contractors had died, while the second received medical treatment.
“MLNG is deeply saddened by the incident and we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased,” it said.
The firms says it is investigating the cause of the incident and will provide more information in “due course”.
Furthermore, operations at the giant nine-train LNG export complex in Sarawak remain unaffected, it said.
The LNG facility has a capacity of about 30 mtpa mainly supplying China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
