MET appoints new LNG head

Sanchez, formerly global head of LNG trading and origination at Germany’s Uniper, started his new position at MET International on Tuesday, according to a statement by MET.

He will take over as head of LNG from Esther Ang, who will assume the role of head of LNG origination in the new structure, MET said.

Sanchez comes from Uniper Global Commodities (formerly E.ON), where he spent more than 15 years strengthening their LNG trading and commercial activities in various roles.

MET said he will provide strategic leadership to MET Group’s LNG desk, driving portfolio growth and supporting short-term trading strategy optimization.

“With his deep expertise in LNG markets, he will lead counterparty negotiations, strengthen key partnerships, and support MET’s continued expansion in the LNG sector,” the firm said.

In recent years, MET claims it has built one of the most geographically diverse LNG import structures in Europe, with long-term regasification capacity bookings in Germany, Croatia, and Spain.

The company has imported LNG cargoes to several countries across the Mediterranean (Greece, Italy, Croatia, Spain), Northwest Europe (UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany), and the Nordic region (Finland).

In addition, MET Group signed a 20-year heads of agreement with US-based Commonwealth LNG and, in 2024, the company entered into a 10-year LNG agreement with Shell to purchase US LNG with the intent to continue growing its long-term LNG portfolio.

Also, MET ordered its first LNG carrier, for delivery in 2027, after reaching a partnership agreement with Danish shipowner Celsius.
