Enagas joins forces with Repsol and CMA CGM’s Containerships for Spanish LNG bunkering op

Spanish LNG terminal operator Enagas said it has teamed up with compatriot energy firm Repsol and CMA CGM’s Containerships to complete the first pipe-to-ship LNG bunkering operation to a container vessel at its Cartagena plant.

Enagas said in a social media post that the bunkering operation to the 1,380 TEU Containerships Borealis took place earlier this month.

Back in 2017, the Cartagena terminal became the first European facility to perform a pipe-to-ship LNG bunkering operation, the firm said. Enagas and Repsol also teamed up for this operation as well and they supplied the Damia Desgagnes asphalt tanker.

Since then, the Cartagena terminal has in total performed ten such operations, according to Enagas.

CMA CGM said in a separate social media post that this was the shipping firm’s first LNG bunkering operation in Spain.

To remind, its Hamburg-based unit Containerships took delivery of the LNG-powered Borealis from CSSC’s Guangzhou Wenchong yard in China last year.

The feeder ship is 170 meters long and features 1A ice-class notation.

After completing the LNG bunkering operation, the ship has visited Spain’s Valencia and was on Wednesday heading towards the US port of Savannah, according to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue.
