Italy’s Fincantieri has delivered the second LNG-powered ship to Germany-based TUI Cruises, a joint venture of TUI and Royal Caribbean.
The shipbuilder hosted a delivery ceremony for Mein Schiff Flow at its Monfalcone shipyard on June 12.
The vessel is the second of two next-generation InTUItion-class cruise ships, designed for dual-fuel operation, including LNG and marine gas oil (MGO).
It is a sister ship to Mein Schiff Relax, which was delivered in February last year.
With approximately 160,000 gross tons and a capacity of about 4,000 passengers, the ship is equipped with catalytic converters compliant with Euro 6 standards, a steam turbine that uses the residual heat from the diesel generators, as well as an electrical shore-power connection, according to Fincantieri.
In addition to these two vessels, TUI Cruises ordered two more LNG dual-fuel cruise vessels, worth more than 2 billion euros ($2.32 billion), at Fincantieri last year.
These two additional InTUItion-class vessels, sister ships to Mein Schiff Relax and Mein Schiff Flow, are scheduled for delivery in 2031 and 2032 respectively.
The cruise sector has widely adopted LNG as fuel.
According to DNV’s latest data, there were 36 LNG dual-fuel cruise ships on order as of the end of May this year.
