According to an operational bulletin by Dunkerque LNG, the force majeure is effective from October 1, 06:00 CET to October 3, 05:59 CET.
Dunkerque LNG said that the terminal’s delivery capacity will be reduced to 44 gigawatt hours on October 1 and 48 GWh on October 2.
The operator said in a note on Tuesday that major French trade unions, including those representing the energy sector (IEG), have already taken (or announced to take) industrial action.
Dunkerque LNG said this kind of action may also take place in Dunkerque LNG and may include strikes affecting our daily operations on the gas days October 1 and 2.
“The exact duration and consequences of this industrial action remain uncertain at this stage,” it said.
A Fluxys spokesperson also confirmed the force majeure without providing further details.
The spokesperson told LNG Prime on September 2 that operations at the Fluxys-operated Dunkirk LNG terminal have not been affected by a national social movement that is underway.
Dunkirk LNG
Dunkerque LNG owners include two groups, with the first consortium led by Belgium’s Fluxys.
According to the Fluxys website, Dunkerque LNG is 61 percent owned by a consortium of Fluxys, Asterion Industrial, and Credit Agricole Assurances, and 39 percent owned by a consortium of Korean investors led by IPM Group in cooperation with Samsung Asset Management.
Spanish infrastructure investor Asterion Industrial recently purchased a minority stake in the Dunkirk LNG terminal.
The investor bought a 25 percent stake in FluxDune, and indirectly, an approximately 15 percent stake in Dunkerque LNG.
Commissioned in January 2017, the LNG terminal has an annual regasification capacity of 13 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
Additionally, previous shareholders EDF and TotalEnergies are the primary customers of the LNG terminal, holding 20-year contracts.
According to Dunkerque LNG, the LNG terminal received 118 carriers in 2024. This compares to 121 carriers in 2023 and a record 141 carriers in 2022.
