Finnish state-owned energy firm and LNG supplier, Gasum, and its partners are planning to build a new biogas plant near Trondheim in Norway.
The consortium behind the project, Trondelag Biogass, includes two other members and they are Norwegian investment companies Aune Holdingselskap and Salvesen & Thams, according to a Gasum statement.
Also, the consortium has started the zoning process for the chosen site with the municipality of Vormstad.
Gasum said it would be the majority owner of the plant and distribute all of the produced biogas at the planned plant.
The company has a large network of LNG/bio-LNG fueling stations for trucks in the Nordics but it also delivers bio-LNG to its maritime customers.
Gasum’s first biogas plant in Norway
Gasum said the Vormstad plant would treat up to 500,000 tons of organic waste per year and produce up to 150 GWh of biogas.
This would be Gasum’s first biogas plant in Norway, which is a “very important direction” of expanding the company’s biogas production, it said.
The firm said it already has a total of 17 biogas plants in Finland and Sweden.
If the partners take a final investment decision, the construction of the plant would start in the spring of 2024 and production would start at the end of 2025, Gasum said.
