Golar LNG appoints new chief commercial officer

Floating LNG player Golar LNG has appointed Federico Petersen as its new chief commercial officer.

“Federico has 20+ years of business development and M&A experience in the oil and gas industry from VTTI, Schlumberger, Equinor, BG Group, and Wintershall,” Golar said on Monday.

He will be based out of Golar’s London office.

“We look forward to having Federico spearhead our commercial efforts as we move closer on Hilli re-contracting and developing our FLNG growth ambitions,” the company said.

Golar recently signed a framework agreement with a “potential customer” for a long-term opportunity that could utilize either the 2.4 mtpa FLNG Hilli or a 3.5 mtpa FLNG.

The LNG firm led by Tor Olav Trøim revealed this in its 2023 results report, saying that it made “strong progress” on redeployment of FLNG Hilli located offshore Cameroon’s Kribi and also potential MKII FLNG employment.

“Commercial terms being discussed are for charter opportunities with 12-20 year contract durations, where we are aligning towards mutually acceptable terms with gas resource owners,” the firm said.

As per the MKII 3.5 mtpa FLNG project, Golar exercised its option last year to acquire the 148,000-cbm Moss-type carrier, Fuji LNG, which it aims to convert to a floating LNG producer.

In addition, Golar’s converted floating LNG producer, Gimi, is expected to start production in the fourth quarter of this year at the site of BP’s Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project offshore Mauritania and Senegal.

This FLNG was converted at Seatrium’s yard in Singapore from a 1975-built Moss LNG carrier with a storage capacity of 125,000 cbm.
