NSMP appoints Risavika LNG operator

North Sea Midstream Partners has appointed UK-based px Group as the operator of its Risavika liquefaction plant in Norway.

Finland’s Gasum sold the LNG plant to NSMP last year for an undisclosed sum.

Now, NSMP has appointed px Group as the operating partner of the plant, which has a capacity of 300,000 tonnes of LNG per year, the latter said in a statement on Wednesday.

The plant, which operates predominantly on electricity produced from renewable sources, takes natural gas produced offshore Norway and converts it into LNG.

It also features an LNG bunkering facility for marine customers linked to the plant as well as a 28,000-cbm LNG tank.

Gasum previously said the bunkering solution was not included in the transaction scope.

According to px Group, the firm has a long-standing relationship with NSMP. It already operates and maintains the St. Fergus gas terminal and Teesside gas processing plant on behalf of NSMP.

The appointment represents px Group’s first operational site outside of the UK and it has set up a new operating entity in Norway, px Norge AS, it said.

Also, the firm assisted NSMP in its acquisition activities, including people management, contract analysis, infrastructure, and procurement.

The group takes over management of the 21-strong, local team at Risavika, and has appointed a new board director. Mike Horgan, MD for onshore oil and gas at px Group, will oversee Risavika operations.
