Storylines, Brodosplit ink deal for LNG-powered residential ship

US firm Storylines has signed a shipbuilding deal with Croatia’s Brodosplit, part of DIV Group, for what it says is the world’s first LNG-powered residential ship.

Brodosplit has already started the engineering phase of the 229 meters long passenger vessel with 547 private residences on board, according to a statement by Storylines.

Moreover, Storylines expects to take delivery of the LNG-powered vessel, Narrative, in 2025.

According to the firm, total sales revenue of the project is valued at $1.5 billion.

In March this year, Storylines said it selected Brodosplit to build the vessel and deliver it in 2024.

The ship is different from a vacation cruise ship in that it is purposely built for residential life at sea.

It is intended to be a floating community and includes a post office, school, library, hospital, bank, pools, office spaces, as well as 20 dining and bar venues.

“Pricing of the residences on the ship ranges from $1 to $8 million for the lifetime of the vessel with a limited number of 24-year leases available starting at $647,000,” Storylines said.

According to the company’s website, LNG will power what is basically a power station.

The ship will have four generators and they’ll be producing electricity at around 6,600 volts.

Other initiatives onboard include converting waste into energy and growing produce at the solar-powered hydroponic garden, it said.
