Armstrong Logistics has taken delivery of five new Volvo FH LNG trucks in order to slash carbon emissions and improve the long-term sustainability of its operations in the UK.
The 6×2 tractor units featuring 155 kg LNG tanks join Armstrong’s 95-strong fleet of vehicles, Volvo Trucks UK, a unit of the Swedish-based firm said.
The trucks each benefit from Volvo’s gas engine technology, using small amounts of diesel to initiate ignition of the air-fuel mixture.
Moreover, this enables the Volvo G13C engine to deliver the same 460 hp and 2,300 Nm of torque as its diesel-only counterpart, according to the firm.
Expected to cover 200,000 km per year, Armstrong will use the trucks on longer set runs – delivering a variety of goods from the company’s three consolidated logistics centres in Hinckley, Lutterworth and Doncaster.
In addition, the trucks will refuel at Gasrec’s site located at Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT).
