Shell: Business Development Manager

Shell is seeking a business development manager to be based in Tokyo.

Principal Accountabilities :

Market Analysis

  • Act as one of focal points for Shell Japan’s LNG market analysis, develop LNG supply & demand model and ensure that it remains up-to-date and relevant. Responsible for producing annual demand report and maintaining regular communication with Shell’s Global LNG market analysis community (Shell Energy Global Integration or SEGI).
  • Responsible for Shell Japan’s produce, renew or maintain contract with external consultant (e.g. Mitsubishi Research Institute) for supply & demand model where required.
  • Conduct insightful analysis of the market data and produce meaningful reports about the Japanese markets/companies for use throughout Shell.
  • Responsible for maintenance and updates of series of Shell Japan database related to LNG business (e.g. LNG contract database, import custom data etc)

LNG Customer Relationship and Stakeholder Management

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining robust relationships with LNG customers and stakeholders to ensure effective communication channels for Shell, management of Shell’s reputation, and access to market intelligence.
  • Provide commercial advice, insight and LNG market intelligence to 100% Shell shareholders, relating to the LNG business and competitor activities in Japan.

SLS (Sakhalin LNG Service, a 50/50 JV between Shell and Mitsui based in Tokyo which provides services to Sakhalin Energy)

  • Provide effective governance to SLS as a focal point of Shell shareholder.
  • Closely communicate with another SLS shareholder (Mitsui) with regard to the governance of SLS.
  • Support GM in relation to logistics of SLS board meeting and AGM.
  • Secondment to SLS is likely to happen in a few years’ time.


  • Market Advocacy – Support TL and CR manager to ensure appropriate advocacy for Shell policy positions and to deliver key messages to a diverse range of stakeholders as required.
  • DLNG – support DLNG team to engage with Japanese stakeholders where/when required.
  • New business opportunities – support TL to engage with internal and external stakeholders in the decarbonization space such as CC(U)S, blue products or any other coded projects where/when required.
