Another LNG-powered containership joins CMA CGM’s fleet

French shipping giant CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest backers of LNG as fuel for vessels, has welcomed another LNG-powered containership in its fleet.

Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua said in a statement it has delivered the 13,000-teu LNG-powered containership, CMA CGM Paraty, on April 9.

This follows the completion of its sea and gas trials last month.

CMA CGM Paraty is the the third in a series of six 13,000-teu vessels which feature windshields.

In December last year, Hudong-Zhonghua delivered the first vessel in this batch, CMA CGM Bahia, and in February this year it delivered the second of six vessels in this series, CMA CGM Buzios.

Hudong-Zhonghua plans to deliver all of the remaining 336 meters long ships during this year. The six vessels will work on the South American route.

Moreover, the new LNG-powered vessels feature GTT’s Mark III containment system and the CMD-WinGD 9X92DF-2.0 iCER main engine.

The shipbuilder and Jiangnan Shipyard are each building six LNG-powered ships for CMA CGM as part of a deal revealed in April 2021, but the six vessels at Jiangnan have a capacity of 15,000 teu.
