EPS, DongHwa Entec in LNG fuel move

Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping and South Korean equipment supplier DongHwa Entec have joined forces on the development of a high-pressure compressor for LNG-powered vessels.

EPS said in a statement the compressor will be installed on one of its 18,000-teu LNG-fueled containerships under construction at China’s New Times Shipbuilding.

This initiative marks a “significant advancement” in LNG fuel gas supply systems, EPS said.

“As part of EPS’ commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, this collaboration optimizes the utilization of boil-off gas (BOG) to enhance fuel efficiency and, in return, significantly reducing environmental impact,” the firm said.

With the HP compressor integrated, the vessel will be able to channel BOG directly into the main engine, minimizing emissions and maximizing fuel efficiency, according to EPS.

Also, DongHwa Pneutec, a unit of DongHwa Entec, traditionally specialised in low-pressure compressors, will expand its product range to include HP compressors with this project.

“By advancing LNG fuel technologies, both companies will stay committed to pushing the boundaries of sustainable shipping,” EPS said.

EPS is heavily investing in LNG dual-fuel vessels.

The company has a large fleet of LNG-powered vessels, including containerships, tankers, bulkers, and PCTCs.

In December 2024, EPS completed its 300th LNG bunkering operation globally.
