Ferus Smit launches another LNG-powered vessel for Thun Tankers

Dutch shipbuilder Ferus Smit has launched a new LNG-powered tanker, part of the E-class series, for Swedish shipping company Thun Tankers.

The launching and naming ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Ferus Smit yard in Leer, Germany.

Thun Empower is the fourth and the last in a series of E-class oil and chemical tankers and they all feature LNG/bio-LNG propulsion.

Goteborg-based Thun Tankers, a part of the Erik Thun Group but also a member of Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance, already operates three such vessels.

It took delivery of the third vessel in this batch, Thun Equality, in May this year.

Furthermore, these vessels trade mostly in Scandinavian waters under long-time charters.

The Swedish firm previously said it expected to take delivery of the fourth vessel in the last quarter of this year.

The 7999-dwt ice-class 1A ships feature a Wartsila dual-fuel main engine that can operate on LNG or gas oil. The vessels are about 115 meters long and 15.8 meters wide.
