Furetank sells two LNG-powered tankers to Neste

Swedish shipowner Furetank has sold two of its LNG-powered product tankers to Finnish company Neste.

The 17,999-dwt dual-fuel vessels in question are Fure Valo and Fure Ven.

Furetank said in a statement it would deliver the vessels to the producer of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel in October and December 2023.

The shipping firm will replace these vessels with the first of the seven newbuildings already ordered by the company and partners at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Yangzhou.

Since Furetank has a long-term contract for transporting renewable fuels for Neste, the company has had the chance to evaluate the Vinga sister vessels.

“They suit Neste’s profile as the company aims to become a global leader in renewable and circular solutions,” it said.

Furetank did not provide the price tag of the deal.

According to VesselsValue data, the tankers built in 2018 and 2019 are each worth about $30 million.

They are equipped with Wartsila engines, with dual-fuel capability to run on LNG or LBG.

Designed in collaboration with FKAB Marine Design, they also feature a battery hybrid solution.

“It is good news for us that we can continue to advance our environmental efforts and develop new vessels,” Lars Hoglund, CEO of Furetank, said in the statement.

“We perceive it as a great acknowledgement that yet another big player in our market and an important customer of ours chooses to invest in our ships, because of the environmental benefits they bring through reduced emissions and less noise,” he said.
