GSI launches first LNG-powered Suezmax tanker for EPS

China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) said it has launched the first out of two LNG-powered Suezmax tankers for Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping.

GSI floated out the 158,000-dwt Greenway on December 31.

The yard claims this is the world’s first LNG dual-fuel Suezmax oil tanker.

Furthermore, the ABS-classed vessel is about 274 meters long and 48 meters wide.

GSI should deliver this vessel, along with its sister ship Starway, later this year.

EPS placed this order at CSSC’s GSI in December 2019 for about $72 million per ship, according to VesselsValue. Idan Ofer’s EPS also ordered two LNG-powered bulk carriers at CSSC’s SWS.

The shipping firm is building a huge fleet of LNG-powered vessels, including bulk carriers, tankers, pure car and truck carriers, and containerships.

It also recently joined forces with Tor Olav Troim-led Golar LNG to form a new LNG carrier firm named Cool Company.
