Harvey Gulf in milestone US LNG bunkering operation

US privately-owned firm Harvey Gulf International Marine said it has completed the 1,000th LNG bunkering operation at its facility in Louisiana.

The shipowner led by Shane Guidry finalized the milestone operation on Monday at its Port Fourchon facility in Lafourche Parish on the Gulf of Mexico, it said in a statement.

Harvey announced plans for the facility in 2013 and officially launched it back in 2015 to fuel its LNG-powered platform supply vessels.

The firm is one of the pioneers of LNG as fuel in the US and claims this is the first North American LNG bunkering terminal.

The facility has 270,000 gallons of LNG storage capacity in three type C tanks. It can transfer 550 gallons of LNG per minute.

In addition to liquefied natural gas, Harvey will also add battery power to all its five LNG-powered PSVs.

Besides LNG PSVs, Shane Guidry’s Quality Liquefied Natural Gas Transport (Q-LNG) has in January this year launched the first offshore LNG articulated tug and barge in America.

Shell, the vessel charterer, has already completed at least two commercial bunkering operations with the Q-LNG 4000.
