Himalaya takes delivery of LNG-powered bulkers

Himalaya Shipping has taken delivery of its LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers in China.

New Times delivered the 210,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel, Mount Hua, on January 8, it said in a statement.

This is the eighth of twelve 210,000-dwt Newcastlemax dual-fuel newbuildings Tor Olav Trøim’s Himalaya has on order at NTS, according to the shipbuilder.

Pirior to this delivery, NTS held a naming ceremony on January 5 for this vessel as well as for Mount Bandeira and Mount Elbrus, it said in a separate statement. Trøim also attended the ceremony.

After the ceremony, NTS delivered Mount Bandeira, the seventh vessel in this batch to Himalaya.

Himalaya said in a social media post on Monday that Mount Bandeira is the first vessel of its January trio to depart NTS.

According to Himalaya, Mount Hua and Mount Elbrus will also start their time charters this week.

The firm said that the vessels are entering a “strong cape market with $30,000/day (+nuke premium and scrubber/LNG benefit).”

Himalaya announced in October last year another charter deal for one of its LNG-powered bulk carriers, securing employment for its entire fleet of 12 Newcastlemax vessels.

Prior to these ships, the latest and the sixth LNG-powered bulker, Mount Neblina, joined Himalaya’s fleet in August last year.

According to its website, Himalaya expects to take delivery of of Mount Denali in May, and Mount Aconcagua and Mount Emai in June.
