Hyundai Samho to build two LNG carriers for about $523 million

South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries will build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for about $523 million under a new order revealed on Monday.

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering said on Monday that its unit Hyundai Samho will build the two 174,000-cbm LNG tankers for an owner in North America.

Hyundai Samho will deliver the two LNG tankers by October 2027.

The order is worth 686.1 billion won ($523 million) or about $261.5 million per vessel, which is one of the highest prices for a single LNG carrier.

Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that Japan’s NYK is probably behind this order.

Earlier this year, NYK also placed an order at Huyndai Samho for three LNG carriers each worth about $255 million.

Prior to this newest contract, Hyundai Samho won an order for two 174,000-cbm LNG tankers from Greece’s Capital Gas.

These LNG carriers are each worth about $259.5 million.

LNG-powered PCTCs

Besides this order for two LNG carriers, HD KSOE announced an order for a floating production unit from Woodside worth about 1.56 trillion won. Hyundai Heavy will build the FPU,

It also announced orders for two LPG carriers from an European owner, and four LNG dual-fuel PCTCs for an owner in Middle East.

Combined, the orders have a price tag of about 3.12 trillion won ($2.38 billion).

HD KSOE said that Hyundai Mipo will build the four LNG-powered PCTCs with a capacity of 7,500 units.

The shipbuilder will deliver these 200 meter long ships by 2027.
