Keel laid for Disney’s second LNG-powered cruise ship

Germany’s Meyer Werft has held a keel-laying ceremony for the second of three LNG-powered vessels it is building for Disney Cruise Line, a unit of the US-based Walt Disney Company.

The yard in Papenburg held on Thursday the traditional keel-laying ceremony of Disney Treasure, Meyer Werft said in a statement.

Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line celebrated the start of hull assembly for the new cruise ship by placing the first component in the more than 500-meters-long covered building dock.

The so-called block for the ship’s bow weighs 719 tons, and has 30,9 meters in breadth and is 23,3 meters long. The height is 12,6 meters.

Meyer Werft says the new ship for Disney Cruise Line will have 1,240 cabins and a size of 144,000 GT.

It expects to complete Disney Treasure in 2024.

Meyer Werft delivered the first LNG-powered cruise vessel in this batch, Disney Wish, in June last year.

Disney Wish arrived at Port Canaveral, Florida from Europe later the same month.

The shipbuilder expects to deliver the third ship in 2025.
