Germany’s Meyer Werft has handed over the second LNG-powered cruise ship to Carnival Corporation’s AIDA Cruises.
Meyer Werft delivered the latest newbuilding of the AIDA fleet, AIDAcosma, in Bremerhaven on Tuesday.
From the end of February, Hamburg would be the first “home port” for AIDAcosma, according to a statement by AIDA. There the first of altogether six metropolis voyages starts on February 26, 2022.
In addition, the cruise firm plans to christen the vessel in Hamburg on April 9, 2022.
From April 23 to October 15, AIDAcosma will offer voyages from Palma and Barcelona. In the fall, the ship sets course for its sunny winter home of Dubai, AIDA said.
To remind, Meyer Werft delivered sister ship AIDAnova, claimed to be the world’s first ocean liner with an LNG drive system, back in 2018.
With a gross tonnage of 183,200 and a length of 337 meters, the LNG-powered sister ships have 20 decks and space for 2,600 staterooms.
