Peninsula, Enagas place order for one LNG bunkering vessel in Korea

Marine fuel supplier Peninsula and a unit of Spanish LNG terminal operator Enagas have ordered one LNG bunkering vessel in South Korea.

South Korea’s Hyundai Mipo would build the 12,500-cbm LNG bunkering ship and deliver it in the third quarter of 2023, Enagas said in a statement on Friday.

In that regard, the firm’s small-scale unit Scale Gas and Peninsula signed a deal to jointly own and order the vessel, Enagas said.

Furthermore, Peninsula will charter the ship for an initial period of seven years. The firm has earlier this year completed its first fueling operation offshore Malaysia after it created a dedicated LNG bunkering unit.

Based in Algericas, the new bunkering ship will work in the Strait of Gibraltar and load LNG at Enagas-operated terminals, mainly Huelva, the statement said.

In addition, the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility would provide 11 million euros ($13.3 million) for the project.

Enagas revealed EU support for this project last year, along with an LNG bunkering project in Barcelona. Total costs for the Algericas project would reach 56 million euros ($68.1 million), the firm said then.

These developments are part of the CORE LNGas hive project, LNGHIVE2, coordinated by the Spanish company.
