Rotterdam LNG bunkering volumes dip in Q2

The Dutch port of Rotterdam reported a drop in its LNG bunkering volumes in the second quarter of this year.

Europe’s largest bunkering port said LNG volumes reached 63,497 cubic meters in the April-June period, a drop of 59.5 percent compared to the same quarter in 2021.

LNG bunkering volumes also dropped compared to 111,804 cubic meters in the previous quarter.

In the January-June period, LNG bunkering volumes declined by 40.1 percent year-on-year to 175,301 cbm.

The port’s LNG bunkering volumes reached record 603,690 cbm last year. However, prices rose significantly during 2022, affecting demand.

On the other side, LNG throughput in the port rose 45.8 percent in the first half of this year on the back of high gas prices and as European countries look to slash reliance on Russian gas.

The port, home to the first LNG import terminal in the Netherlands, Gate, recently said that total LNG throughput reached 5.41 million tonnes in the January-June period, compared to 3.71 million tonnes in the year before.
