Rotterdam LNG bunkering volumes down in Q1

The Dutch port of Rotterdam reported a drop in its LNG bunkering volumes in the January-March period when compared to the same quarter last year.

Europe’s largest bunkering port said LNG volumes reached 86,088 cubic meters in the quarter, a drop of about 16 percent compared to 102,579 cbm in 2022.

However, LNG bunkering volumes rose 75 percent when compared to 58,599 cbm in the prior quarter, the data shows.

The Rotterdam port adjusted its data for 2022. It previously said that LNG bunkering volumes reached 328,029 cubic meters in the January-December period, a drop of about 45.6 percent compared to record 603,690 cbm in 2021.

According to the new data, LNG bunkering volumes stood at 406,599 cbm in 2022. This is a 32.6 percent decline compared to the year before.

Last year’s volumes were lower mainly due to high prices, however, prices dropped this year.

LNG throughput in the port rose 14.3 percent in the first quarter of this year when compared to the same period last year.

As previously reported by LNG Prime, Dutch Gate LNG terminal in the Rotterdam port received a record number of LNG cargoes last year on the back of high demand and a surge in US deliveries.

Gate unloaded a total of 183 LNG cargoes, mainly from large LNG carriers, while the facility loaded 84 cargoes, mainly to small vessels.
