Shell welcomes AET’s LNG-fueled VLCC to its chartered fleet

LNG giant Shell took delivery of the second of three LNG-powered very large crude carriers it has chartered from Malaysia’s AET, a unit of MISC.

Back in 2021, Shell signed deals to charter in total ten LNG-powered VLCCs from AET, Advantage Tankers, and International Seaways.

South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean, previously known as DSME, is building all of these vessels and now it has delivered the second of three 300,000-dwt tankers to AET.

AET announced the delivery of the Malaysian-flagged Eagle Ventura in a statement on Monday.

Eagle Ventura is the second LNG dual-fuel VLCC delivered for long-term charter to Shell following her sister, Eagle Vellore, it said.

The third sister vessel is currently under construction by Hanwha Ocean in Geoje and due to be delivered later this year on long-term charter to Shell.

Also, MISC’s unit Eaglestar is the appointed ship manager of Eagle Ventura and its two sister vessels.

Shell previously said that over half of its crude tanker fleet is set to be LNG dual-fuel by the end of the year, while the company is also developing zero-emissions fuel options to support future decarbonization of the shipping sector.
