South Korea’s KSOE reveals orders for 8 LNG-powered vessels

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has revealed new orders for LNG-powered vessels, including six containerships and two pure car and truck carriers.

The orders are worth about 1.28 trillion won ($1.04 billion), according to a statement by KSOE issued on Friday.

Under the first order, KSOE’s unit Hyundai Heavy industries will build six LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 7,900 TEU and deliver them to an owner based in Liberia in the first half of 2025.

The containerships will have 272 meters in length, 42.8 meters in width, and 24.8 meters in height.

This order has a price tag of about 989.5 billion won ($805 million).

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime that this order could be connected to Switzerland’s shipping giant MSC. The firm is building a fleet of LNG-powered vessels.

As per the order for LNG dual-fuel PCTS, KSOE’s unit Hyundai Samho will build these vessels for an owner based in the Middle East.

HSHI would deliver these ships in the first half of 2025 as well, KSOE said.

The car carriers will be 200 meters long, 38 meters wide, and 37 meters high.

These two LNG-powered PCTCs are worth about 294.1 billion won ($239 million).

Brokers said that Ray Car Carriers is behind this order.

KSOE and its units won orders for 80 ships worth about $8.23 billion this year.

The shipbuilder has set a target for this year of $17.4 billion, compared to $14.9 billion last year. It secured in total $22.8 billion worth of orders during 2021.
