Swedish LNG-powered tanker set for maiden voyage to Europe

Swedish LNG-powered tanker Fure Viten will soon depart from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard to start its maiden voyage to Europe, according to shipowner Furetank.

Sweden’s Gothia Tanker Alliance has ordered in total eight dual-fueled product and chemical tankers at the yard previously known as AVIC Dingheng Shipbuilding.

The Chinese yard already delivered seven ships in this batch and will complete the entire project with the handover of Fure Viten.

To remind, China Merchants Jinling launched the LNG-powered ship in December, ahead of its delivery planned for June.

“Our crew is now on their way to the shipyard in Yangzhou,” Furetank, a member of the alliance and the commercial manager of the vessel, said in a brief social media statement on Wednesday.

Besides Furetank, the other vessel owners include Alvtank and Thun Tankers. Furetank will operate four of these vessels and the firm also received the previous ship in this batch.

The 16,300 dwt medium-sized tankers feature Wartsila LNG propulsion and battery backup as well.

Each of the FKAB-designed ice-class ships is 149 meters long and 22.8 meters wide.
