Wuhu to build LNG-powered vessels for Langh Ship

China’s Wuhu Shipyard said it has won a contract to build LNG-powered multi-purpose vessels for Finnish shipping firm Langh Ship.

According to Wuhu, the 7,800-dwt multi-purpose general cargo vessels would have Finnish/Swedish 1A ice class.

Classed by DNV and designed by SDARI, the LNG-powered vessels will be 119.90 meters long.

Also, they will feature the 9L34 dual-fuel main engine from Finland’s Wartsila.

The contract includes three LNG-powered vessels but Wuhu did not reveal whether these are firm orders or they include options.

Wuhu also did not disclose any information regarding the delivery or the price.

Clarksons Platou says the order is for three firm LNG-powered vessels and Wuhu would deliver them to Langh Ship in 2024.

Family-owned Langh Ship operates a fleet of multi-purpose and general cargo ships able to work in challenging Northern conditions. The firm mainly transports steel, bulk and container goods, according to its website.

On the other side, Wuhu is building several LNG-powered vessels. Earlier this year, the yard has secured a contract to build one LNG-fueled bitumen carrier for Canada’s McAsphalt.
