Bangladesh’s Summit FSRU in STS milestone

Summit Group’s FSRU-based terminal in Bangladesh, one of the country’s two LNG import terminals, has reached a milestone ship-to-ship transfer since the start of operations in 2019.

The 138,000-cbm Summit LNG FSRU completed its 100 STS transfer on March 25, according to Summit LNG Terminal, the operator of the facility and Summit’s unit.

Also, the 2005-built, 148,525-cbm Maran Gas Asclepius, owned by Nakilat and Maran Gas, delivered the milestone shipment to the FSRU from Qatar, its AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows.

Bangladesh mostly imports LNG via its two FSRU-based terminals, with a combined capacity of about 7.6 mtpa, from Qatar.

To meet the growing demand for natural gas in the country, Bangladesh added its second FSRU-based import terminal with Summit, increasing its total natural gas supply by 25 percent, Excelertate Energy previously said.

In August 2017, Summit entered into a 15-year charter agreement with the US floating player for the FSRU. Excelerate’s FSRU began operations at the facility in April 2019.

Located offshore Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, the terminal has a send-out capacity of 500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d) of natural gas.

The FSRU is connected to shore by a six kilometers long subsea pipeline.

Excelerate’s FSRU also serves Bangladesh’s first LNG import facility, Moheshkhali Floating LNG or MLNG, operated by Petrobangla.

Launched in 2018, the 138,000-cbm FSRU Excellence completed its 100th STS transfer offshore Bangladesh last year.
